Helpful Resources for Refugees:
Lutheran Social Services (LSS): Contact Viktoria at LSS in Rapid City, to help with translation, reading forms for you, pointing you toward job prospects and apartments.
Social Security: Apply for your Social Security Number, needed for many services in USA. Office is located at 2200 N Maple Ave #301. (800) 772-1213 open 9 am-4 pm weekdays.
Cell Phones: T-mobile has been the best at supplying SIM cards without needing a contract and new phone.
Doctors: Doctors at Rapid City Medical Center have been good at helping refugees (605-342-3280). Also, Complete Health may be a resource if Medicaid insurance has run out after a year. Call 605-721-8939 and they will direct you to one of three locations in Rapid City.
Dentist: Dr. Fibonacci at 2800 Jackson Blvd, Suite 9 (605-348-0831) has helped refugees.
Banking: Black Hills Federal Credit has worked with refugees.
Public Transportation: Public transportation in Rapid City is called Rapid Transit (RTS) and they have limited bus schedules. get route maps and prices online at: www.rapidride.org or phone: 605-394-6631. Taxi, Lyft and Uber services are available.
Housing: temporary home-hosting and apartments are needed until the SSN arrives
Jobs: There are a number of ways to find jobs, from Rapid City job listings and SDLabor sites. Word of mouth, fellow refugees, and this organization continues to find opportunities.
